With 35 years of expertise, Operation Smile, has made a substantial difference globally. They believe that every child deserves exceptional surgical care. And their mission is to provide life-saving reconstructive cleft surgeries and to increase the overall surgical safety, quality and capacity worldwide.
Through their global network of medical professionals, who donate hundreds of hours towards the care of children around the world each year, their supporters who are moved every day to make a difference in the lives of children they’ve met they have been able to sustain and grow over the past three + decades.
It should come as no surprise given the scale and depth of this organization that a partnership with the global mega company PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay division joined forces with the nonprofit to put smiles on bags of Lay’s Potato Chips as part of its limited-time “Smile with Lay’s” campaign. This cause driven initiative is not only drawing attention to this valiant organization, but it is showcases the best in corporate citizenship as Lays is making a substantial contribution in conjunction with this initiative.
For each purchase of one of the specially designed bags—which are printed with the smiles of real consumers—the brand is making a donation to Operation Smile. The packaging design, which incorporates a diverse assortment of smiling faces, rolled out across the United States in February. Fourteen of Lay’s potato chip flavors were available in the grin-inducing food packaging. Sizes included 2.88-oz (three-serving) and 10-oz family-size bags.
In addition to buying Lay’s Smile bags in-store, consumers could also go online to order a bag of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips printed with their own smile. Sarah Guzman, senior director of marketing, Lay’s, explains that the campaign, “had an overwhelmingly positive response, showing consumer support on social media by sharing images with their bags using #SmileWithLays. By engaging with our fans to play a significant role in supporting Operation Smile, we created an inclusive and empowering environment for consumers to celebrate the power of a smile—while at the same time giving a forever smile to children in need.”
At the conclusion of this campaign last month Lays donated a total of $1 million to Operation Smile. This program left a lasting impression on consumers regarding this social investment initiative while enabling children in need globally to have healthy and happy smiles.
